Our Story

MORE THAN JUST COFFEE

The hut isn't just about our passion for fantastic coffee; it's about connection, community, and a deep love for this special corner of Ireland. And we invite you to experience it, the heart of Kerry, one cup at a time.

MEET THE FAMILY

Carrauntoohil Coffee Hut stands on land that's been walked and worked by the same hands for generations, right here in Lisleibane, County Kerry, at the very foot of Ireland's highest peak; within the stunning MacGillycuddy's Reeks.

We didn't just build a coffee hut; we poured our hearts and history into it. Hand-built by the family, it's shaped by the very people who know this patch of Kerry inside out. Phil brings years of kitchen experience and warm hospitality, John is the man for anything to do with the land, his knowledge runs deep, and he’s never short of a story about the local landscape or the protected sites within these hills. And Cathal? 🤍The friendly face behind the counter, the expert hands crafting your freshly brewed coffee, and the one forever tweaking recipes to get the brownie texture just right.

If you’ve stopped by before, chances are you’ve met one of our four-legged family members like Uisce, our beloved Bichon Frise and quite possibly the proudest sheepdog in Ireland. She’s usually found surveying the yard from a tractor or keeping a close eye on the lambs. You’ll find sheep dotting the hills, a chorus of lambs in springtime, and some of the best mountain views in the country, stretching far across the MacGillycuddy's Reeks and surrounding Kerry woodlands.

Our Passion for Irish Producers

We believe that great taste starts with great ingredients, and for us, that means sourcing quality products from other Irish businesses. Our passion for supporting local suppliers isn't just a philosophy; it's woven into every cup and bake.

Babor's Beans Coffee

Our coffee isn't just "freshly brewed", it's the result slow roasted, small batches,  with a deep understanding of flavour right here in Ireland.

Every rich, aromatic sip is a testament to their passion, and our shared belief that a truly great coffee is more than just a need, it's a moment of quiet perfection.

We're proud to pour their passion into your cup, knowing you're tasting the best of Irish roasting expertise.

Ó Conaill's Real Irish Hot Chocolate

Forget your run of the mill cocoa; this is the real deal. We chose them for their rich, velvety, and utterly indulgent, homemade Irish chocolate.

It's the kind that makes you sigh with happiness and possibly forget your name for a moment. It's proper Irish comfort in a cup, no fuss, just pure chocolatey bliss.

Beyond our mainstays, we genuinely strive to source largely from Irish producers wherever possible. It's about building community and bringing you the freshest, most authentic tastes of Ireland.

WHERE A DREAM TOOK ROOT: 2021

Carrauntoohil Coffee Hut began as simply a dream, one we brought to life from an old shipping container in 2021.

When the hatch opened in 2022, we had no idea what was ahead. We just knew we wanted to create a place worth stopping for. A place that felt like it belonged to the land and the people who pass through it.

It’s been an incredible journey that we’re so glad to be on. Today, the hut stands proudly beneath Ireland’s highest peak, welcoming everyone from early morning hikers to Sunday strollers and local families. We're usually here baking, chatting, and doing our best to serve up the best coffee and bakes right here at Carrauntoohil. That’s a little glimpse into the heart behind the hut, we look forward to welcoming you!
