The hut stands on land that’s been walked and worked by the same hands for generations. Built by the family, shaped by the very people who know this patch of Kerry inside out.
There’s a part of each of them in it. Phil brings years of hospitality and time in the kitchen, so good food and warm welcomes come naturally. John’s your man for anything to do with the land — his knowledge runs deep, and he’s never short of a story. And Cathal? He’s the face behind the counter, the hands behind the coffee, and the one forever tweaking recipes to get the brownie texture just right.
If you’ve stopped by before, chances are you’ve met one of our four-legged family members — like Uisce, our beloved Bichon Frise and quite possibly the proudest sheepdog in Ireland. She’s usually found surveying the yard from a tractor seat or keeping a close eye on the lambs.
You’ll find sheep dotting the hills, a chorus of lambs in springtime, and some of the best mountain views in the country. You’ll find us in the hut — baking, chatting, and doing our best to support other small Irish producers as we grow.
That’s a little glimpse into the heart behind the hut.
Tucked away in the foothills of Kerry and the heart of the MacGillycuddy Reeks, the hut began as a dream — one we brought to life from an old shipping container in 2021.
When the hatch opened in 2022, we had no idea what was ahead. We just knew we wanted to create a place worth stopping for — a place that felt like it belonged to the land and the people who pass through it.
Since then, it’s been a journey we’re so glad to be on. Today, the hut stands proudly beneath Ireland’s highest peak, welcoming everyone from early morning hikers to Sunday strollers and local families.
